Love is a many splendored thing. It lifts us up where we belong, it’s the tender trap and it will keep us together. But more than that, love makes a house a home. The last place Daniel expected to find love was in a halfway house. Recovering from a grueling addiction, he met Lisa who was also going through the same struggle and the pair fell in love. Eager to start their life together on the right track, Daniel and Lisa turned to the Prosperity Center – Community Partners’ one-stop financial empowerment resource. They were able to learn how to budget, build better credit, start a savings program and set long-term goals for the future. Before long, Daniel successfully earned his barber license and Lisa branched out as an entrepreneur, launching her own web design company.
This bedrock of stability and success had led to a bright future for the couple. A strong and dependable role model, Lisa’s children refer to Daniel as, “their real dad,” and by filing three years of back taxes with a Prosperity Center financial counselor, Daniel has been refunded enough money to build savings towards a home. Both Daniel and Lisa took the required Financial Literacy and First-Time Homebuyer Workshops through the Prosperity Center and today, they are packing up to move into their first home. Fully integrated in Prosperity Center’s IDA (Individual Development Account) program, Daniel and Lisa will be homeowners within the next three years. The goal of homeownership was realized through the couple’s determination and the Prosperity Center’s team of financial counselors, but it’s love that made Daniel and Lisa’s house a home.
Happy Valentine's Day from Community Partners!
